Care Dental Focus offers care on a referral basis to complement the skills of general dental practitioners from across Scotland. Our special areas of focus are in the fields of Implantology, Endondontics, Periodontology. Located in Crieff,Perthshire, we are within 90 minutes drive from 90% of the population of Scotland.

Our Services

Dental implant treatment is a rewarding and highly profitable field for any dentist to practice in. The advances in dental implantology over the last few years have simplified a once complex discipline so that the prosthetic procedure is now well within the capabilities of any GP confident with normal crown and bridge work. Our overall service is to enable you to integrate Implantology within your whole practice.

Facilities

Our clinic has undergone a major extension and refurbishment in 2008 to facilitate our expanding referral centre and is exceptionally well equipped with an OPT and CT scanner and operating microscope.

Also on site is our laboratory, which specialises in all-ceramic dentistry and has its own Straumann Etkon scanner.

We have recently invested in the future of digital dentistry and have installed the itero machine into our surgeries and laboratory. As a reference centre for Straumann UK we are delighted to organize an evening to demonstrate this technology to any interested parties.

“What are the options for this patient?” is often the question by which we are perplexed. Our greatest success in our referral service is in formulating patient treatment plans. With our digital OPT, CT scanner, technicians, referral clinicians and our dedicated patient consultation room we explore the patient’s options and develop this into a fully explained, consented and signed treatment plan. As a result, the uptake of treatment plans is very high. Normally the planning and We offer you a complete service from treatment planning right through to the delivery of cases for those dentists who wish to refer for the entire treatment.

Alternatively, as a referral centre for practices across Scotland, we offer you a blended learning approach to partnering with you. This includes study days and evenings, mentoring / practical assistance and e-learning tools, right through to bespoke training for your whole practice. Our aim is to develop those referring practices that wish to get involved in our coaching and mentoring programmes.

Our facilities can be made available for referring dentists to use, either within assisted practical mentoring or when working alongside our technicians or sedationist.

Through our training and mentoring programme we will accredit, equip, encourage and support you in all phases of the restoration process. Our technicians will be on hand to help you throughout your learning and development. Our success in providing implant and advanced dentistry has evolved carefully worked out systems, management structures and marketing plans. We are happy to share and help implement these with our partner practices.

Dr Bruce M Strickland

Dr Bruce Strickland has been placing dental implants since 1998 and today he is one of a small group of full-time implantologists within Scotland. He is a lecturer and member of the International Team of Implantology and acts as a clinical coach for Straumann UK.

Bruce graduated from the Royal College of Surgeons of England with a Diploma in Implant Dentistry with an additional Accreditation and Advanced Certificate in Bone Grafting. His extensive experience in performing pre-implant bone grafting procedures including ‘sinus lifts’ and block grafts from chin or ramus has proved invaluable. Further more, as part of aesthetic treatment Bruce routinely performs soft tissue grafting / augmentation and guided tissue regeneration. He has an audited failure rate of 1 in 1500 implants.

PERIODONTAL DENTISTRY

Dr Alan Maxwell MSc BDS MGDS RCS (Eng)

Alan is a specialist in Periodontics. He graduated from the University of Glasgow Dental School in 1982 and subsequently obtained his MGDS from the Royal College of Surgeons in Edinburgh in 1990. After obtaining his MSc in Periodontology in 1997 at the University of Bristol, he was accepted on to the Specialist Register in Periodontics in 2000.

Dr Maxwell now works full-time as a periodontal specialist undertaking all aspects of treatment within his field, with a major focus on regenerative therapy and cosmetic periodontal surgery. He shares his time between Care Dental Focus and the Scottish Centre for Excellence in Dentistry.

He is a member of the British Society of Periodontology and has had his work published regularly in a number of leading dental journals. Alan also previously served as an examiner with the Royal College of Surgeons in Edinburgh and lectures to General Dental Practitioners on a regular basis.
